Trends in BI Adoption
snapshot
ON BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
;e value of business intelligence has been well
understood for decades, but penetration within
the organization still remains relatively low, according to the “Wisdom of Crowds Business Intelligence Market Study” from Dresner Advisory
Services, LLC. ;e study found that 60 percent
of the largest respondent organizations have less
than 10 percent user penetration of BI tools.
;e largest deployments of BI solutions are
found in Western countries, very large enter-
prises and in certain key industries. In spite of
crete groups of users. With the trend apparently
favoring smaller deployments over time, many
organizations will likely see their numbers of BI
tools increase.
;e study also found that functional alignment within organizations for BI continues to
shift, with business influence taking hold most
noticeably in North America. Finance influence
remains strong in all geographies, and the IT
department appears to be growing in influence
outside of North America.
Survey respondents were IT (61 percent) and
business users (39 percent) in organizations of
all sizes worldwide, but the majority of respondents were from North America.
